I just downloaded it, and it's a bit unclear on this point. Anyway, it's easy to test. Just set up a 38Khz source (maybe using a 555 and an IR diod) and check if you get a continously "low" output from the receiver... But anyway, I *still* think that a special IR-protocol and signal encoding is better then the standard UART way of doing things.
