It is an experimental "Maglev train" on a line specially built in the Yamanashi prefecture (West of Tokyo). It has already been there for a number of years and I guess for lot more to come. But if you really want to ride that type of train you go to Shanghai (yes Mainland China) where they have started the first commercial service with Maglev technology for the railway (if I dare say so) between the new international airport in Pudong and the Eastern side of Shanghai where you connect to standard railroad service. The system has been fully built in a record time of roughly two years and service started at the beginning of 2003 (but still not normal schedule). Full commercial service is expected to start in early 2004. Something like eight minutes from the airport to Shanghai! It sure beats the Narita Express in Tokyo that takes a full hour on standard railway line, to link Tokyo station to Narita Airport, It is a drag but still better than the airport bus than can take anything up to two and a half hours. Here in France we have the TGV which is a French high speed train system where commercial speed is 300 km/h. This rail technology still holds the speed record on a railway track with something like 540 km/h during trial runs. >http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/sci_tech/newsid_3283000/3283177.stm > >-- >http://www.piclist.com hint: PICList Posts must start with ONE topic: >[PIC]:,[SX]:,[AVR]: ->uP ONLY!
