I've done it with a ----- Original Message ----- From: "Denny Esterline" > Can anyone tell me if it's OK to use a "unipolar" stepper (i.e. one that > has center-tapped coils) *as* a "bipolar"? I tried it out a few months ago and it worked ok, but I did notice the stepper motor wouldn't support as high a step rate. I didn't notice any difference in the startup torque, but the torque it generated was way over what I needed so its possible I wouldn't have noticed. I also observed it ran better off higher voltages. It was a 5v rated stepper (I assume that's rated for center-tap use) but it ran better on 10V with the center taps clipped.
