I purchased surplus Vexta, 8 wire unipolar motors and the supplier claims that they can be configured for unipolar or bipolar operation. Their bipolar documentation suggests that the center taps are connected (8 wire case) and ignored. I am using the motors in unipolar mode so I can't validate the suppliers claim. Hope to hear from others on performance issues. I realize that this might not be as low of a resistance value as what I might see with an actual "bipolar" single-coil device, but the question is... will it work? My instinct is that it should, but perhaps with less startup torque. What say you all ? Thanks!
