The Microchip site should have application notes with working examples.
Try searching on the good ol' 16c84 and 16f84 as there are heaps of
sites out there with examples. The 16f870 is similar in a lot of ways.
I just Googled for "16f870 example" (without the quotes!) and found
http://hem.passagen.se/communication/870.html for a start.
