Depends on what I have. Right now I have a cheap digital scope, and I'd most likely use that to debug an RS232 issue. Failing that (i.e. I only had my analog scope), I'd create a case where the same character is sent repeatedly, that way it's easy to see on a regular analog scope. Of course, all this depends on the "issue", many 232 problems can be solved with a multimeter and a few software "guesses".
