In extreme cases...I guess I could turn up the brightness and record it = via digital camcorder. It's visible for 1/30th of a second... What do most people use to debug Rs232 issues...? =20 And I guess with most hobbies....you never have it "All" do ya :) I'll = start with a nice 100Mhz scope and work from there. Thanks again for everyone's help!! Tim >>> rgrazia1@ROCHESTER.RR.COM 11/24/03 18:38 PM >>> A single event on an analog scope displays one time. There is a type of analog scope with a long persistance phosphor that will display the single event for a long enough time to analyze it or photograph it. Some high-speed film can capture the trace. This is the way it was done not so many years ago. But the short answer is a typical analog scope cannot recursively repeat the display. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tim Hart" To: Sent: Monday, November 24, 2003 5:55 PM Subject: Re: oscilloscope stuff Well....I read over most of that document....very good. Still confused about those "Single Shot" things....would a TX/RX on say = the Serial port show up if setup to trigger? Or would the next wave of = nothing overwrite it? I guess what I'm asking is can an Analog O'Scope be setup to keep = displaying a screen once a trigger is set on a channel? Maybe an example.... I set up the scope to trigger when channel one goes to 5v...the total = screen covers 100 ms. When channel one goes to 5v I want it to show me that 5 volt pulse and the next 100ms....nothing else. Both Channel 1 and 2 are showed. Maybe I'm asking to much...maybe I need to look for both a scope and a = logic analyzer? Thanks for the step in the right direction! Anyway, the best reference I've seen for learning how to use an oscilloscop= e is Tektronix's "XYZs of Oscilloscopes". It should be downloadable from their web site at http://www.tek.com/Measurement/fundamentals/scopes/literature/XYZs_of_Scope= s_English.pdf It is 60 some pages long. Explains everything you need to know to get started. Of course it is Tek-centric but you will get the idea. Forward this to piclist if you wish.
