I don't know if I'd go so far as calling it stupid, however I most certainly agree that moving from an open and perfectly functional platform to a closed crippled platform like VS is NOT a good idea. I have always stayed away from MS development tools because of the "you're stuck" factor, once you get used to doing it the MS way, which of course doesn't work with any NON MS stuff, it's hard to switch.
