You do realize that to get 48V at 5A from 12V, your "primary side" will need to draw an average in excess of 20A? And if you're using some sort of switched supply, the primary switch and inductor currents will be significantly higher than that? I guess you're working from a car battery, so you'll have the current available, but I think you're looking at a very non-trivial design. Don't melt your wires...
