I guess they're really macros, where a single instruction may code a
couple of Microchip instructions. I think they simplify code
substantially, but maybe only because I never learned the Microchip
syntax.

A few examples:

snc (skip no carry)
djnz (decrement, jump not zero)
cjae (compare, jump if above or equal)
etc.
