600 ohms may not be "standard", but at least common.  Some published "dB"
values for equipment assume a certain voltage into 600ohms for 0dB, although
I don't remember what that voltage is.  Of course this isn't real dB since
that represents a dimensionless ratio, but mere laws of physics and
mathematics don't get in the way of product literature.
