The Pickit1 masquerades as an HID device so that it doesn't have to
load it's own device drivers.  It looks like an HID device on the PC,
and the MAC also recognizes it as an HID device.  See the page that

I can't decide whether I think this is particularly clever, or
particularly lazy...  Whatever; it's the way that the pickit1 does it.
