I've done it; not that I really liked the results. If you clip out the plastic "tray" lining the bottom of the socket, you have easier access to the pins for tight iron soldering. For some reason they seem to like to build these out of low temp plastic so they are pretty easy to melt if you are careless. It works but not super easy or pretty.
