The most common IR emitters are not fiber but 2 conductor wire. They usually have an 1/8th inch mini plug on one end and and LED on the other end that transmits visible light and IR. Xantech makes one we call Blasters. www.homeautomation.com has them available. They are used in many applications. Home theater control systems from Crestron, AMX, Elan, etc. have the ability to learn IR codes and output them to the various components used in a typical home theater. The controller can then have macros programmed into it to turn on the components in the proper sequence, as well as lower the screen, output RS-232 commands to a lighting control system like our system (www.centralite.com). Many high electronics stores now sell these emitters as well. Mike Reid -- http://www.piclist.com hint: The PICList is archived three different ways. See http://www.piclist.com/#archives for details.
