Barnes To answer the above question, no it wasn't the issue :) I have found that after making certain that the postscaler was set at 1:1 I do have communications although it is garbage characters. I have verified the RS-232 circuitry external to the PIC (MAX233) by tying the logic level RS-232 RX and TX together and watching the echo on my terminal software...all is fine there. I have verified that all registers associated with asynch communications and the SPBRG value are properly set for the 8MHz INTOSC. I wonder if the OSCTUNE value is out of calibration? I'll have to borrow a frequency counter and verify the internal oscillator. Going to try a canned stable clock source in the next day or two and see how that works. BTW, I can throw a 16F628 using INTOSC on this MAX233 and communicate fine all day long! Thanks for all the help and I'll post the results of my tests. Regards, Stephen D.
