You can minimise this -

If using AC have zero-cross switching

Run bulbs below rated voltage

Pre-warm the filaments with constant short pulses to avoid
repeated thermal shock when they turn on for real

And make the best of available light with reflectors behind and
scattering (eg faceted plastic like you'd find on a shower door)
in front
