'Use our flash processors because you can easily upgrade them' but of course MChip couldn't be bothered to fully support their ICD1. The only ICD1 upgrade they've provided is to support programming the -A versions of the existing chips list. The upgrade does work with the older MPLAB (5.3x) since the firmware determines that you have an 'A' chip and modifies the ICSP algorithm appropriately. E.G. you set V5x MPLAB to 16F876 and the ICD1 programs it as a 16F876A. Kudos to the engineer who wrote the patch. Jeers to the marketing department for failing to support the ICD1 in MPLAB 6.x.
