We're working on a new design, and want to take advantage of the 4x PLL in the 18F parts. But we want to stay under the 25 MHz limit as that apparently won't get fixed anytime soon. That means our 7 MHz source will have to go a bit slower. There was some reluctance to pick something that put us up at 24.5 MHz, but I suggested that 25 wasn't really a break point (as my somewhat facetious title implied). In fact I'm guessing that having been burned at 40 MHz, Microchip is being a bit conservative with this number. Anyone want to share their take on this? Thanks.
