why do I see.....a big flashing sign.....danger....danger....

L5-30 is a 30A device, locking  while most 3 prong plugs are either 15A or
20A.  Thus if you adapte a device that requires more than 20A, its going to
either heat up the cables or pop the breaker (latter hopefully)

Not that many of us haven't done this......

So go get yourself a L5-30R and make an adapter....
