Thanks for the suggestion George but at the moment the ICD2 at $188 is $188 more than I have in my bank account at the moment. Microchip have actually suggested that I buy one of these and use it instead of my Picstart+ which kind of cheesed me off a bit. I've already invested considerable time and money on Microchip products and cannot afford to buy another programmer just for developing with the 18F1320/1220. The thing that really gets my back up is they are still marketing the Picstart Plus on their website with the claim : "The PICSTART Plus development suite from Microchip Technology provides the product development engineer with a highly-flexible, low-cost microcontroller (MCU) design tool set for all PICmicro(R) MCU devices (DIP packages up to 40 pins with optional 68 and 84 PLCC capability)" another part of the datasheet states "Devices supported: All PICmicro MCUs (DIP Packages up to 40 pins)" Now I thought that "All PICMicro(R) MCU devices" meant what it says. I've pointed out this error to them but all I got back is "You should buy the ICD2 instead". I find this datasheet very misleading and any new customers are going to read it and find the same. Although I pointed this error out to them months ago, they still have the .pdf on their website. Anyone think there could be a case here for the Advertising Standards Agency for misadvertising a product ? It clearly does not do what it "says on the box".
