Hi Russell,

All the web hosting providers I've ever dealt with, even the free personal
space that your dialup provider gives you, have either had counters
available onsite or else allowed you to run your own cgi-bin directory.
You might ask them.

If you do have your own cgi-bin directory, you might like running awstats,
it's easy to use and works quite well, especially if your web server logs
in extended mode.
