You're right - the Picstart+ doesnt support the 18F1320 point blank :-( It also doesnt support the 18F1220 either. This isn't to do with MPLAB - the 17C44 in the Picstart is now up to capacity and Microchip cannot fit in the programming algorithms for the new 18F1320. I have been in touch with them over this and received a reply that stated that they are working on a "super upgrade" to the PS+ which would be based on a higher capacity 18F series. If you look at the newest version of MPLAB, there is an option in the programming menu to download the latest firmware to the Picstart - this could only be done with a flash device and as the 17C44 is only a OTP device then this seems to back up their email to me. In the meantime, I'm stuck with a box of 18F1320's that I cant play with at the moment until the new upgrade comes out. Regards Dom P.S. Below is the actual response I received from Microchip Tech support : Hello Dominic, Thanks for choosing Microchip! I would recommend contacting the distributor who sold you the PICSTART PLUS and see if they would exchange the tool. We plan to have a "super" upgrade for the PICSTART PLUS in November, it will add support for many of out new devices. We're hoping that the upgrade will include support for the 1220 and 1320 devices. I also recommend purchasing the MPLAB ICD 2, if you're using DIP packages you might also want to purchase the Universal Programming Module. I apologize for your frustration. We try very hard to give the best advice possible through the web, phone, and email. Good Luck with your design.
