It is the CS equivalent of the dead fish you wave over a circuit to make
it work.

Seriously, you could try to install the disk in another computer where it
is recognised, write down the chs info from the bios, and try to type it
into the chs info for user sized drive on the orphaned one. Make sure you
force the new computer to use chs (large mode) and not lba, then write
down chs info.
