From: "Olin Lathrop" > How is any software that isn't part of the bios supposed to help the bios > see the disk drive? It doesn't help the BIOS at all really. The BIOS still misidentifies the drive size, but the Ontrack "virus" lives in the MBR of the drive and runs as soon as the BIOS loads it. It then "fixes" the low memory storage locations that the BIOS has already filled in with incorrect info. It may also hook the interrupts so that later calls to it return more correct information, but I'm not sure on that one. The OP needs to upgrade his BIOS if possible for the best fix. I would only resort to Ontrack if a BIOS upgrade wasn't possible. His computer will probably only "see" drives that are <8GB. Sometime when you have nothing better to do ;-) you should look at the history of the "fixes" that have been made over the years to accommodate ever increasing drive size. It's amazing that each step has been to only allow for a moderately larger drive than the preceding format. I think the current limitation is something less than 200GB. michael brown -- http://www.piclist.com hint: PICList Posts must start with ONE topic: [PIC]:,[SX]:,[AVR]: ->uP ONLY!
