Well - I've had great fun trying to program one of these. The datasheets dont seem to exist any more and there is very little information on how to program these. Most of the info I found was on the PCF version and its equivalents. From what I could find, it was pin and algorithm compatible with the 24c01 so I knocked up a programmer and tried 3 different programs to try and program them. All the programs / programmers would read the PCD8572 as a 24C01 but none of them would program them. Picprog came up with an Acknowledge problem while Ponyprog (excellent program) would throw up an error then the chip would become unreadable before power was cycled. In desperation, I managed to find a circuit diagram of an old television set which used the PCD8572 and there was a 2n2 capacitor between pin 7 of the eeprom and ground and a 10k resistor between pin 7 and +5 volts. I made this modification to my programmer and lo and behold - it worked first time. I'm sending this to the Piclist in case anyone else has this problem in the future - could save you a couple of days of "research" time.
