However to some degree you have to deal with all of these when dealing with
the hardware. :)

Look at all the posts we get talking about SMPS regulators and wireless
communication links.

However I guess you really meant heavy duty power distribution networks and
ethernet/telephone/microwave type communication. Still having a knowledge of
these can help to shape the way to go with the itty-bitty bits we deal with
simply because of an understanding of some of the bigger issues.
