Yep, there are lots of commercial units around that do that. USB2.0 external hard drive enclsures are pretty cheap now. I would have preffered Firwire but I bought an el-cheapo USB2.0 unit and it works very well. Very fast data transfer, from memory I think I clocked it at more than 12MByte/sec transferring large video files. Even works on my USB1.1 laptop.
