Hey Russell, I have had many good experiences with the 819. It's my PIC of choice whenever I need an 18 pin micro. I also use the 819 for training coworkers. The 819 is straight forward with no unexpected behavior, and half the price of an 84. In my opinion, it's a great chip. BTW, I have not tested the 819 above 8 MHz.
