There are a number of hosting providers that will give you a fully
operable Linux "virtual server" where you can continue to do all your
administration and setup of software as you please, but you're sharing
bandwidth and server CPU/RAM/etc with everyone else.

One of the local Linux consultancies here is doing it with User Mode
Linux, where they boot multiple Linux kernels inside the main box and
chroot everything appropriately.  They're at www.tummy.com .

Best of all worlds, you get a full linux box to play with and you don't
have to host it locally on your bandwidth.
