Hi matt redmond, I'm new to PIC too, I've basic in-circuit 16Fxxx programmer kit(make my own), don't know which project to start-on .you give me a good idea to start with, can we share the info for this project? two brains better than one, I think. although I've experience with electronics project but no experience with PIC. regards CL Low -----Original Message----- From: pic microcontroller discussion list [mailto:PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU]On Behalf Of Matt Redmond Sent: Friday, September 19, 2003 3:51 AM To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Subject: [PIC:] Just starting, need advice... Hi All, I'm just now ready to get started playing with PICs. My experience with electronics is very limited, though I understand the basics. I am generally interested in doing the following with PICs: Interfacing a numeric (3x4) keypad, controlling LEDs and LCDs, communicating with external devices via RS232 and communicating with a PC via IrDA. So, can y'all recommend decent versions of the following: 1. A C to PIC compiler 2. A programmer suitable for use with a wide range of flash PICs. I'm partial to USB but it isn't really necessary. I think Parallel bites & would like to avoid it. 3. A PIC simulator I'd love to be able to do in-circuit debugging but I guess it's really not necessary unless there is some consensus that it is. This is just hobby stuff & I /am/ on a budget - I can't be blowing a thousand bucks on all this stuff.
