Most places will allow the home owner to do whatever he/she wants, as long
as they are living in it as the primary residence.  Of course, if you don't
know what you are doing, then its a bad situation.

I keep it quiet to my neighbors that I'm an EE....as they do about being a
mechanic  :-)
