Genetic Engineering paper - critique sought If this is not of interest then please ignore. A critique of the summary paper at http://tinyurl.com/nol3 is invited from anyone who is interested and/or can be bothered reading it. About 2.5 pages of A4. Will have some typos and is not quite complete. My country (New Zealand) is in the throes of deciding whether to allow full "in the field" Genetic Engineering (GE) trials - something a number of countries have already gone through (and may yet regret). I am preparing a paper on "The promise of Genetic Engineering" This is intended for general circulation in this country to whoever may be interested plus will be on the website. The material there so far is a SUMMARY only. It outlines what I have to say but largely does not explain why these things are true. A summary can only be so big. Also, it may be all that some people ever read, so it should contain as much of the key material as possible BUT be small enough and interesting enough that Joe or Jill Average won't wander away before finishing it. Any who are really interested will need to read the full version. I am pro-Genetic Engineering and pro Science BUT I am certain that the blind rush into world wide exploitation may well lead to utter disaster for vast numbers of people and may possibly destroy the human race entirely. I, of course, have good reasons (sez I :-) ) for these beliefs and believe that I can justify them rationally. Others, of course, disagree. I can't imagine how anyone can do so - but that's another story. What I would like to get as feedback is i) Anything at all that you consider relevant ii) Comment on the probable efficacy of the summary in its intended role. All and any comments most welcome. Feel free to criticise my perspective as harshly as you wish. I'd be pleased to be convinced that I am wrong :-) Full version will be on site in a few days as things are moving along here. . regards Russell McMahon -- http://www.piclist.com#nomail Going offline?
