BTW, as I said, I've been using the trial version of Goldwave off and
on for a couple of years (how quickly time passes). My sound system
is much better than it used to be and I'm using GW a lot more, mostly
for CDs (particularly vinyl -> CD transcription) and sound effects. I
think I've well and truly explored its capabilities and will be stumping
up for the full-version cost. Cool Edit I've tried, it was OK, but I'm used
to Goldwave now. Tried Polderbits too, ditto
