I hate scrolling too.
Therefore I prefer to see the reply at the bottom.

I found it's a must to read a snippet that is replied to before
reading the reply itself. In the case "reply at top" I have to
scroll twice.

Regarding the untrimmed original message, I just try not to read
them. If some bozo doesn't bother to express clearly what the
point he is replied to why should I dig into his crap at all?
