That depends on what you want to do. If all you're looking to do is receive signals from a remote, do a search at Jameco for infrared. They have Sharp's GP1U26X, which takes 5v and spits out decoded IR which it receives modulated at ~38 kHz, IIRC. If you want IRDA, it becomes more complex. Microchip's MCP2155 and MCP2150 will do the stack handling for you, and a transceiver module can be readily found from Digikey.
