Hi you guys, I just thought to tell you what was the final outcome. The power supply to the pic was 5.6 V which definitely was one of the problems as dropping it to exactly 5 V was necessary to fix it. Then I found that enabling the "failsafe clock monitor" stopped it, only if the supply was not 5V6 though. Now if there was any distirbance the pic would change speed and blow all my nice shiney new IGBT's as it does not go back to the xtal osc. I then found that using the "2 speed osc. startup" fixed the problem with no ill effects. There does see to be a problem at startup with a 10Mhz xtal and the PLL that the watchdog does not help. I know there are problems with this chip and I will keep clear of it in future, but this might help someone else that is trying to use it.
