Check the specs carefully before you spend the $$$! Among RC Airplane modellers the radio brand is almost a religous issue. I need to say upfront that I am a Futaba user and have been using the 9ZAPS transmitters since about 1994. AFIK, Futaba & JR support only their own receivers and will not discuss using a mix of brands. Neither uses a signal centered in the channel, one is high and one is low. Airtronics is the favored radio of the Glider enthusiasts and has suffered sporadic support from the vendor the last decade. Some of their transmitters are designed to support other vendors products. Hitech has a spotty reputation. In general, they have been inclined to try to compete head to head with Futaba by under cutting cost. Unfortunately, the quality difference shows. I believe they have models that will support the other three receivers. Only Hitech and Futaba offer synthesized transmitter modules. Only Futaba offers synthesized receivers. A year or so back Hitech acquired the very innovative Multiplex company in Europe. So far, the influence on the American market has been minimal. I know of a patented and tested spread spectrum device that works in the 900mhz range that shows a lot of promise but has so far been ignored by the manufacturers. JR has a patented reciever technology that works very well. Futabas main business is automotive electronics. FMA has a line of accessories that is very innovative. Unfortunately, the servos they market have been of such poor quality as to make anything with the FMA label suspect. There used to be an American manufacturer (ACE) that produced a DIY RC line that included a Microprocessor controlled transmitter. It was bought out by a Chinese company and is now far from state of the art. If you disagree with my comments, let us discuss more! The only real enhancements that I have seen in the last ten years have been better servo's and better batteries. The field is ripe for advancement!
