And not about differences in signal coding (FM vs. PCM) ?

These are two completly different issues, AFAIK...

My last RC equipment was home built, 7 chan, 27 Mhz,
*AM* stuff in the late 70's. Run a 1 m RC boat
with an 1,7 hp OS60FSR.
