To PICLIST BCC Various Wilkommen, Summary: I wish to achieve one of the following - Sell Windows XP home GERMAN or - Sell HP ze4385EA notebook, 2.?GHz cpu, 60GB, LAN & wireless LAN, Modem, CDRW/DVD, 15" TFT, etc etc or - Make GERMAN Windows XP home talk to me mostly in English This should maybe go under [AD:] except I'm unsure which way to jump. There are perhaps better forums for this question but none with such an eclectic collections of consultants :-) While around the worlding my semi distributed computer system which I was using for photo backups (about 1 x CD per day) began to falter (PC, USB external drive, USB CDR etc). USA dairy creamer (and possibly US customs :-) ) played a part in the downfall - the deliquescent (initially) dry creamer liberally coated ALL the contents of our large techo bag including the CD's and the insides of the CDR and .... . Additional problems may not be traceable to dairy creamer (USB HDD started being flaky and losing data). Anyway - In Vienna, Austria, I purchased an HP notebook PC. HP Pavilion, ze4835EA, AMD 2.xxx? GHz CPU, 256 MB RAM, 60 GB HDD (which I needed), CDRW/DVD read combo, 15" TFT (nice), floppy, Wireless LAN 802.11 inbuilt, modem, NIC, ... Windows XP home GERMAN. Therein lies the rub. This is a very nice notebook PC. I like it greatly and would be pleased to keep it. ***BUT*** my advanced usage of it is being somewhat cramped by the GERMAN Windows XP home. HP in UK weren't at all interested in helping and I suspect I won't get much joy here (haven't tried yet). I would be happy if most of the messages were in English but no amount of playing with system settings seems to help. Googling and MSofting suggest that the German version isn't really interested in talking good English BUT I may have missed something. Official solution seems to be to buy a new version of XP and overlay it. This is an expensive solution and one which I don't really want to countenance if it can be avoided. So - Can anyone offer advice about making this PC talk English better. or - Does anyone want to buy Windows XP home GERMAN version? or - Does anyone want to buy a nice laptop with a German O/S. (Keyboard is slightly different to what I am used to but presumably would be very familiar to any German stranded in the antipodes who wants a familiar laptop). Prices by negotiation. PC relatively little used (mainly for CD backups for the last 5 weeks or so). regards Russell McMahon -- http://www.piclist.com#nomail Going offline?
