We have tried that in our design, but had problems because the data bus is shared with other devices. Are you sharing your data bus? What state do you leave the bus in when the USB bus is not connected?

We found that if the USB bus was not connected, then the chip would source current from the data bus, as it is effectivly not powered.

Would be very interested to hear how it is used in your design,
