Notepad does it to me even WITH it unchecked!! A real pet peeve of mine! RP. Ok, my two cents. Outlook (express or otherwise) picks up a setting from the OS as to display the file extension or not. In any folder window goto 'View' -> 'Folder Options' -> the 'View' tab. There's a checkbox labled "Hide file extensions for known file types". (it may be labled slightly differently depending on OS version) When this is checked, and it is by default, Outlook hides what it interprets as the file extension. in the case of "badfile.gif.pif" the '.pif' part is hidden. Hence some people will see it and other will not. This also has other consequences too. The one that always annoys me is thet if it is checked, and you save a file in notepad with a file extension other than 'txt' (like "example.asm") it will append ".txt" to it so your left with "example.asm.txt". This has always been a pet peeve of mine... -Denny -- http://www.piclist.com hint: PICList Posts must start with ONE topic: [PIC]:,[SX]:,[AVR]: ->uP ONLY! [EE]:,[OT]: ->Other [BUY]:,[AD]: ->Ads
