For the record, I am not advocating anything to do with burning out LED's= =2E.. I just experimented with a single T1-3/4 red LED to see how much voltage = I=20 need to burn it out. 5V seemed to do the trick, but then there was this=20 strong smell, which brought back memories of accidentally burning out LED= 's=20 some 20 years ago. But this time, I had the sense to realize that some p= art=20 of that smell is caused by Arsenic (generic red LED's are Gallium Arsenid= e,=20 aren't they), and we all know how unsafe that is.
