Okay, so we wire it up thus:

Vdd     RB7
GND    RB6
Vpp     Vpp
RB6     GND
RB7     Vdd

That way, regardless of which way you put the connector on, it has
the proper signal orientation.  Of course, if we use a shrouded, keyed
connector, no problem, but I usually just use snappable pin headers
so I can have a lot of options easily available, and I suspect most
other hobbiest types do as well.
