May I suggest buying a cheap R/C vehicle and "repurposing" the electronics?

I just got a MegaBloks Battle Bloks system for less than $11.00 and I can
change the electronics around so that I can make it into a robot. It
has a simple R/C system and is able to connect with Lego or MegaBloks
pieces.

Radio Shack always has a number of cheap R/C vehicles available after
Chistmas.
