When the battle is between a 16x84 and a 16F628 the price is IMHO a very convincing argument for beginner who is probably low on cash (if he was not low on cash he should start with a 16F877A or 18F452). And note that the 16F648A (4k code!!) is the same price as a 16F628 (at least it is from my source, and hence from wy webshop).
