AT&T and several other suppliers have wireless phones (900MHz & 2.4Ghz)
that have an additional battery in the base station so that they CAN
operate during a blackout. Or the enterprising PIClister can wire up
a 12V gell cell or Nicad pack to provide his wireless phone with power
at all times.
