Hi guys Finally a sane voice in the middle of all this winging( British for complaining). I just joined a few weeks ago and I can not believe how much we deviate from the subjects in hand... this list is all about tapping into a collective knowledge and experience for the good of all of us. I got loads from this list and we all are in one way or another technicians or engineers so let's behave like it. What chances would anybody have in the real world if you can not take it here? Yes, sometimes Olin is a bit aggressive, but at the same time He helps a lot of people on this list, so just delete it if you do not like the answer, someone else will help you. If we start asking for people to be removed, well Joe I think that your remarks about Olin are not good for the list so I would also want you removed, someone else would not like my comments about this and ask for me to be removed and so on. soon it would be no one on the list and the Knowledge base would be gone... and that would be a shame... Life is not only made of " well done, you done a very good job" is also made of bad patches where you fell very small indeed, and believe me Joe I had a lot of those. let's just move on and stop with these deviations that will just lead to bad feelings between all of us ( I'm not a pacifist :)) and get on with what some of us do best and others, like me, just try. best regards Luis -----Original Message----- From: Wouter van Ooijen [mailto:wouter@VOTI.NL] Sent: 14 August 2003 08:22 To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Subject: Re: ]_Olins_Mental_Health > I have not chosen to post to this list in the past due to a > fear of the > consequences of reacting to one of Olin's tirades which was > aimed at me. What's wrong with your delete button? (BTW, that is the same suggestion which is often given to Olin!) > I would then react and the list Admins would revoke my > membership. Eevery list member speaks for himself, and a few volunteering list admins speak for the list. > On occasion Olin attempts to speak for over 2000 list > members. I don't know > how many have given him that right. I, however, have not. He does not speak for me, nor have I ever seen him attempt to do so. He sort of tries to speaks for a 'silent moral majority', but I am always a minority, so that does not include me :) > What can be done? Just post, ignore the responses you don't like. But be aware that Olin's responses often contain good technical contributions, and when he has already provided some (technical) point I won't repeat it lateron. > I don't much care one way or the other, but either he's civil, or he's > history. I don't agree with his wording, but I often agree with his argument: RTFM. I would regard removing Olin (or any list member) because he (she) voices his (technical!) ideas in a rough way a serious degradation of this list. Note that I do approve removing of people who voice ideas that don't belong to this list at all (like politics).
