Diffuse: If you are outside the intended viewing angle you might still be able to see that it was on by looking directly at it Clear: If you are outside the viewing angle you can't really tell if it's on just by looking at it. If you need a really wide viewing angle, then diffuse can often be seen well outside the designed viewing angle.
