Hi Charles, So MPLAB it is! Thank you very much, I'll check MPLAB for the details -- I appreciate your help. Thanks for taking the time to post the snippets. Best regards, Ken Pergola -----Original Message----- From: pic microcontroller discussion list [mailto:PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU]On Behalf Of Charles Craft Sent: Saturday, August 09, 2003 3:19 PM To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Subject: Re: [PIC]: PIC18FXX2 data sheet question regarding ICD resources I'm not on a machine that has MPLAB loaded to check the online help for the details. Sorry. http://www.microchip.com/download/tools/picmicro/icds/mplabicd2/51331a.pdf "When developing with MPLAB ICD 2, the user must be aware of the device resources reserved for debugging. Check the MPLAB IDE on-line help or the README file of the current software to find out details of the processor being used. In general, in-circuit debugging uses the following on-chip resources:" http://www.microchip.com/1010/pline/tools/picmicro/icds/icd2/index.htm Mine came with both ports. Which one you use depends on what your PC supports. I've used the USB port on a WinXP machine and used the RS-232 on either a NT 4.0 or Win2k box. -------Original Message------- From: Ken Pergola Sent: 08/09/03 12:36 PM To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Subject: [PIC]: PIC18FXX2 data sheet question regarding ICD resources > > I'm hoping someone who has used a Microchip ICD2 with the PIC18F452 might be able to answer these questions: Regarding: PIC18FXX2 data sheet (document number DS39564B): Page 210 Section 19.7: In-Circuit Debugger Table 19-4: DEBUGGER RESOURCES Question #1: What are the program memory addresses of the 512 bytes that the ICD2 "owns"? Question #2: What are the data memory addresses of the 10 bytes that the ICD2 "owns"? I've been looking through the data sheet and I can't find the answers to these questions. Now for getting a little off-topic (sorry): I'm thinking about getting a Microchip ICD2. For those that have one, are you happy with it? I've seen some messages on this list that seem to imply that there is a USB-only ICD2 and a dual-port ICD2 (serial port/USB port). It sounded like there is a price difference between the two. I looked on Microchip's web site to see if they offer two different models, but I did not see any reference to a USB-only ICD2. Did I misunderstand the messages? Thanks very much for any pointers and help.
