You're lucky - I had to buy my 18F1320's before I realised my picstart+ wouldnt program them :-( I've spoken to Microchip about it and they are working on an upgrade for the PS+ to allow it to program the 18F1320's. I ended up sending back a couple of hundred uk pounds worth of PICs as I was unable to use them - shame really because they were ideal for the application I was going to use them for. Microchip were unable to give me a timescale for the modification to the PS+ and suggested I purchased an ICD2 instead (that was precisely 10 minutes before the PICs were on their way back to the distributor). I updated my Picstart+ with the lasted firmware but it does not support the 18F1x20 series parts. I do not want to buy a ICD2, but are there any less expensive alternatives out there. I am a hobbyist, and this is my first post but have been viewing for a few weeks now.
